In Microsoft Messenger 5.0 (and previous versions), there's a message at the top of each conversation window you open that warns you not to reveal personal information such as credit card or banking information in your conversation. That warning is appropriate, but let's face it, after your 20th conversation window, if that message hasn't sunk in, it probably won't. Microsoft also provides no way to turn the message off.

To remove (or change) that message, do this:

1. Back up Microsoft Messenger, and quit the app if it's running.
2. Right-click (or Control-click) Microsoft Messenger and select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
3. Navigate into Contents -> Resources -> English.lproj folder (or the folder for whatever localization you use).
4. Edit the file named InstantMessageWindow.strings, and replace the contents for the string named IMWarning (it should be at the bottom of the file) with the text you want, or ""; for no message at all.
5. Save InstantMessageWindow.strings.
6. Restart Microsoft Messenger.

New conversations you open will now display your message (or no message) at the top of the window.
