10.4: Print envelopes in Address Book Apps
Tiger only hintDid you know you can print envelopes directly from Address Book in 10.4? According to the Address Book help, this is a new feature. I know I haven't seen it before.

While viewing an Address Book card, or while multiple cards are selected, choose the menu item File -> Print. In the Print dialog, there are options for printing lists of addresses, mailing labels, pocket-sized lists, and ... envelopes. Lots of different sizes and shapes are supported.

For more information, search for "adrbk1562" in the Help Viewer application.

[robg adds: I know this is a pretty basic hint and it's just one regarding a new feature, but I asked a few iChat buddies about it, and a surprisingly high percentage didn't realize that envelope printing support had been added in 10.4 ... so now there's no excuse not to know!]

This option was around in Panther too, at least. I don't find it very useful because I normally want to print a single address label. The layout of the label sheet is not configurable so it always prints on the upper left label first.

The hint was not about printing labels but printing directly to envelopes. This is a handy feature. I hate writing addresses by hand on envelopes. Hmm. I should really say I hate writing by hand. I prefer to type.

Oh! I totally misread this. This is actually useful for my problem of printing ONE thing at a time. :) Skip the labels!

has anyone figured out a way to configure where it prints?

maybe somehow using blank addresses to push it to start where you want?

Too bad no bar codes. MS Word even does that.

10.4: Print envelopes in Address Book - Customizing?
Authored by: rxfrchng on Tue, Aug 16 2005 at 1:50PM PDT
When printing Envelopes or Mailing Labels, there's no way - or I haven't figured out how - to customize what's being printed. This is a problem considering it is printing the spouse's name AFTER the last name. For example:
John Smith and Mary
123 Elm St
Anytown, FL 32316

Yeh, what's the point of having all those extra fields if you can't use them on your printed lables! I have been wanting to print job title and department on my labels for ages - an essential when I'm sending out to art directors in big companies. Does any one know how I can customize the print setting so these detailed would appear on printed labels??

thanks

It will print the spouse's name correctly if you enter the spouse's full name: if the main entry is "John Smith" and spouse "Mary Smith" it will correctly print "John and Mary Smith".
