10.4: Some extra features in the Weather widget System 10.4
Tiger only hintThe weather widget has a couple of undocumented features:
  • Click on the icon (sun, clouds, whichever) to expand a six-day forecast.
  • Click on the city name to go to an AccuWeather website with more information.
[robg adds: Everyone probably knows about clicking the icon to expand the window; I wasn't aware that the city was linked to the forecast page, so maybe this semi-obvious hint will help someone else as well.]

The only issue is in the Z-ordering of the elements. Some of the weather image PNGs are so wide that they seem to cover the entire cityname, and make it impossible to click "behind" the image. So make sure you move your mouse all the way to the first couple letters of the city's name.

You can hold Command and Alt and click on the weather icon, to get to a place called nowhere. From there, you can see all the weather icons.

Not the extra feature I was looking for, though: the ability to show weather in my hemisphere of the planet.

I thought I'd got it working, but after seeing some rather unseasonal values reported, I discovered that there's a 'London' in West Virginia too...

if in doubt as to which city location you are actually connecting with press enter after typing it and you will see a pop up list of locations. There are a LOT of Londons!

put "city, state"

I live in tasmania, australia, a very little known part of australia (except the tassie devil) and when i searched my city hobart, the us one came up, but when i put in hobart, tasmania, the correct value was there.

Just turns out that Accuweather is VERY inaccurate for my location! (The Hague, Netherlands)

Still digging to see if I can use another server, but as far as I can see Apple and Accuweather set up a special server for the weather widget... :(

You also can shift-click the graphic to slow down the expand/collapse animation just like you can do with the min/max window sizing in the dock
