Use iPod Photo to show Keynote2 presentations Apps
Keynote2 allows you to export each slide as an image file. You can then add those images to an album in iPhoto5, and sync your iPod Photo. Now you can hook the iPod Photo to a TV, and give a presentation without a projector or computer.

You could make separate pics for each added element to a slide, and have a sort-of build sequence that approximates what you would get with a computer attached to a projector. iPod Photo even allows you to add music and basic transitions between slides. Finally, you can even manually control the changing of the slides as if the iPod were a remote.

at macworld, on the floor, sal (from apple) demonstrated with Tiger how you could use automator to set up a task to do this all with one click. starting from a keynote presentation and ending up with it on the ipod photo.

This is a nice hint. I've become addicted to dynamic transitions, so it'd be hard to do exactly what I want to do on an iPod, but the potential for transition-less presentations is great.

As an aside: one barrier to further iPod-Keynote integration, at least in the context of the presentation coming from a laptop, is Keynote's lack of Applescript-ability. See this exchange with Jonas Salling, of Salling Clicker fame, for a more detailed discussion of this point.

Firstly, I wouldn't call it transition-less. Ther are basic transitions and you have the option of turning them on or off. One might want to have them off if they wanted to show builds of a slide by making an individual jpg for every new element added to a slide.

Secondly, applescript will probably become obsolete or at least marginalized with the release of Automator in Tiger. As one of the repliers in this thread noted, a script was demoed at Macworld by Sal (the head of Applescript at Apple) which automated keynote and iphoto and iPod photo. I wonder how that will work with Keynote since as you mentioned Keynote is not currently scriptable.

As a scientist who often gives presentations, this occured to me as soon as the iPod photo came out. I bought one the week they were announced. The first thing I did was export a bunch of Powerpoint slides to JPGs, copy them over to the iPod photo, and hook it up to the computer project at work. THEY LOOKED BEAUTIFUL.

You lose all the transitions but as you know, POWERPOINT MAKES YOU STUPID :-) http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte/books_pp Most of the time, all the fancy stuff is just a waste of time. Few folks can make all those fancy stuff work for them (Steve Jobs being one of them, of course... :-) Most of the time you are better off sticking to simple and elegant.

One other fun and useful technique I discovered with my iPod Photo... while presenting a recent Historical Society Keynote presentation, I got the idea to output successive images captured from a QuickTime VR, and using the scroll wheel on the iPod, I got a reasonable facsimile of the effect of the QTVR

But I wish the iPod photo would play back video snippets
Authored by: madbard on Mon, Jan 31 2005 at 5:40PM PST
Even with some upper MB limit or something, if you could playback small video snippets on the iPod photo, that would be something. I've pestered Apple at their feedback page--everyone else should too. :-)
