Log into AIM via iChat using an ICQ account Apps
As a follow up to the earlier Add ICQ users to iChat AV hint...

You are now able to log into iChat using your ICQ account. I discovered this today, after doing the 2004-09-16 security update. So now, when you insert your account details, you are able to just put in your ICQ number, as seen here. iChat should now connect to the ICQ network and retrieve all your ICQ contacts. However, they will all have numbers as their usernames, so you will need to manually change these yourselves.

Also, I have discovered that when communicating with non-iChat ICQ clients, they will have problems with formatting. View these screenshots to see what I'm talking about. I have sent feedback to the iChat team about this; hopefully we'll see a fix in the future.

Log into AIM via iChat using an ICQ account

Seems to me that ICQ for Windows simply doesn't support HTML/XML formatting.

I wonder if there's an option to turn that on? That would fix her.

i disconnected, inserted my icq account details and logged in. i don't have buddies there so i only started a chat with a person but i got his away message. enough to confirm that it worked.

but then i noticed that the person i was on aim chat before is online again! i left the window opened, the line for typing appeared so i continued to chat with her. can somebody confirm that behaviour?

ICQ Formatting

ICQ should only be plaintext. Any client which sends HTML over ICQ is buggy; iChat has now joined the proud ranks of such clients :P

agreed!

html should never be used outside a browser - never for emails! argh!

html chat is like colours in (m)irc all over again

emoticons are going too far as far as i am concerned - gimme text text text!

ps adium does rock, i love how skinnable it is (as much text _or_ pictures as u like)
