Update Acrobat 5 to run on OS X Apps
I don't know if this has been posted here yet, but it was very useful to find this info out. If you own Acrobat 5.0, you can upgrade to Acrobat 5.0.5 which will run natively on OS X. This can only be done if you have Classic running on your machine. Simply start up the Update installer and choose your copy of Acrobat 5.0 in your applications folder. Once updated, you can drag the Acrobat icon straight to the dock. Once in the dock, click once and Acrobat will load straight into OS X. This saves having to upgrade your version of Acrobat to version 6 if you don't particularly need to do so.

Yes but it still sucks. Version 5 was the worst, least stable, and buggy of any version they ever did. And, as noted, Distiller isn't updated either. This update is pretty dang old too. I wouldn't call this a hint as much as fulfilling your user responsibility of making sure your software is up to date with the latest patches. Seems like, when this update came out, it was more to keep up with the rest of the Adobe development teams and proving Adobe's commitment to X, if only, in this case, cosmetically so.

Yea I have had Acrobat 5.0 for ages, but it won't boot since I installed Panther. It crashes on startup.
