Add Address Book support for the Sony Ericsson T630 Apps
So I got one of those new fangled Sony Ericsson T630's... but when I tried the Bluetooth dialing and SMS features in Apple's Address Book.app, I was disappointed they didn't work. Well it turns out the fix is pretty easy and involves a one item addition to a plist file inside the application bundle. I'm using Panther.
  1. Quit and backup your Address Book app... bla bla bla ...
  2. Control click on the Address Book app, select Show Package Contents, then navigate to Contents -> Resources.
  3. Control click on Telephony.bundle, Show Package Contents, then navigate to Contents -> Resources
  4. Open ABDeviceCommandSets.plist with Property List Editor (or a text editor to change the XML in a more primitive way)
  5. Find this array in the ABDeviceCommandSets.plist: Root -> 1 -> ABDeviceModelStrings ... you should see two string entries here, T610 and Z600. Add another string entry with the value T630. Save and quit
Now relaunch Address book. SMS and dialing should now work with your T630.

Hi, kind of irrelevant quesion but...where did you buy your T630? I'm in the US and I have T-Mobile but they don't seem to carry this phone. I'm phoneless right now, my T68i just died so I need a phone and I would have like to get the T630. Thanks.

Hi,

I purchased my T630 at a Cingular/T-Mobile outlet on 24th Street and 2nd Avenue in NYC. I signed up with Cingular. They just popped a SIM into the phone and I was out the door. It 's seems to be the same size as the T616. Better graphics and features. Happy so far. The phone is a pearl white with a black version becoming available in a month or two according to the store clerk I dealt with.

I am puzzled by this. I looked inside this file, and saw no reference to my phone or maker [Siemens SX1]. Yet, these functions of dialing & SMS messaging work flawlessly from Address Book through Bluetooth. Is this perhaps as much a function of iSync support as anything else?

A similar thing seems to be true for the Sony Ericsson P900 - same file - look at the bottom of the file and at the bottom there is a string for the P800 - add P900 below and bingo SMS and Dialing.

Pity it doesn't seem to have had the same effect with Answering, VoiceMail etc functions; nor does it pick up the caller id from the phone. ANy ideas anyone?

Hi!

I exactly had the same idea. But it won't work for my P900! As soon as I insert the P900-array and start up my adressbook the menu "SMS-Send" is greyed out. *confused*

When I delete it the menu "SMS-Send" is there but it won't send any SMS.

Any idea?

BTW: OS 10.3.2 and P900 newest official Firmware from Sony-Ericsson.

Greetings
plantagoo

I tried adding P900 to the bottom of the file, however, can only dial (more than I could do before) - cannot sms.

Can someone post a copy of the plist file so that I can try it.

Thanks

Hi! I tried your suggestion on adding another P900 string below P800 string but it still doesn't work on my P900. Is it because I'm using Text Edit instead of Property List Editor that I don't have?
It would be very helpfull if you could send me the "ABDeviceCommandSets.plist" that you have changed to work on P900.
I'm using Panther 10.3.2

The thing lacking seems to be the AT commands. I've been trying to google them all day, but I just cannot seem to find suitable AT commands for the P900. After changing the .plist I can dial, but in the plist the only string is the ATDial.

If the working plist could be sent to me at banton@solidhardware.com, I'd appreciate it a bunch. Or if someone has those AT commands or a link, I could take it from there also.

Thanks a bunch,

b

Add Address Book support for the Sony Ericsson P900
Authored by: chrismiles on Wed, Mar 10 2004 at 6:15PM PST
Hi - great hint here. I have been playing with this plist entry for P900 and so far the best result I can get is to adding P900 to entry "1" (along with T610 and Z600) and now I can dial people and see who is calling all from Address Book.

If you add P900 to entry "4" (alongside P800) you get almost no behaviour at all. This is obvious from the lack of any at commands for this entry.

Now it should be possible to find out the correct P900 'at' commands for sending/receiving SMS and Answering a call and we will all be very happy.

Further to this, a fix to allow the Mac Address Book to answer a P900 phone call is to change the above mentioned plist file.

Change:
ABAnswerPhone=at+ckpd="s"
to:
ABAnswerPhone=ata

As far as sending/receiving SMS messages goes, looking through the Sony Ericsson developer community site seems to indicate that the P800/P900 phones do not support SMS over at-commands. That is quite a shame - I wonder what alternatives are offered.

When I pair my P900, it dims both iSync and Address book, so when I click the icon in address book to hook up to the phone, I get another pairing dialog. ugh

Also, replace:

ABHangUpPhone=at+ckpd="e"

with:

ABHangUpPhone=ath

The P900 only supports the Keypad command (+ckpd) for the Camera button, which is at+ckpd=":C". I'm not entirely sure why Apple decided to give commands to the phone by pretending to press the keypad.

What about full vCard support?
Authored by: d-og on Mon, Mar 8 2004 at 7:15AM PST
...there's a problem that I can't fix:

iSync only copies the phone/fax and e-mail entries of the Adress Book to the T630, but does not copy any other vCard information like Street, City, etc.

Is this a limitation of the T630 (probably), or of iSync?

It really is a pain in the ***... I got the bluetooth phone exactly for this purpose: Having one single contact database that can be copied to many devices. So if I'm on the road and need address of a friend, I have to pop open my iBook to access the whole vCard, or call him?

Great but this as always happens to me, I'm running OS 10.3.3 Address Book ver 3.1.1 and my friggin Address Book.app doesnt have - Show Package Contents>Contents>Resourses>ABDeviceCommandSets.plist file!!!!

I've looked in all the other folders with in the package and I cannot find it. I've even checked to see if it's hidden. The file list I have with in Resources is:

ABApplicationSuite.scriptSuite
ABApplicationSuite.scriptTerminology
ABGeneralPrefsModule.tif
ABLDAPPrefsModule.tif
ABLabelMetrics.plist
ABLandscape.tiff
ABLargeTypeWindow.nib FOLDER
ABListHTMLTemplates.plist
ABMailNotificationPrefsModule.tif
ABPhoneFormatPrefsModule.tif
ABPortrait.tiff
ABTemplatePrefsModule.tif
ABVCardPrefsModule.tif
AddressBook.icns
Defaults.plist
English.lproj FOLDER
LDIF.icns
MailNotification.applescript
NewPerson.tiff
NonLocalizable.strings
PhoneMinus.tiff
PhonePlus.tiff
ScriptMenu.tiff
Telephony.bundle
backup.icns
vCard.icns
vCard.tiff

Does anyone else have this problem? It's bloody annoying. Hope someone can shed some light.
Thx

you're not running Salling Clicker (SC) are you? I find that it's impossible to have SC connected to my T630 and Address Book SMS feature functional at the same time.

To confuse matters, whilst SC is connected to my T630 I can also click the bluetooth connect button in Address Book and it will light up. Then if I disconnect SC, Address Book is disconnected too. Then if I reconnect Address Book first followed by SC, the SMS feature is no longer grayed out in Address Book but it still doesn't work - no errors, just no SMS:( I've heard this is a limitation possibly AT command set related, that can't be overcome, at least not without manufacturer support, but I'm still investigating.

from the Salling Clicker FAQ, under 'Traditional Sony Ericsson Phones'
How can I connect Clicker and Address Book at the same time?
1. Hold the option key when you click "Select Phone" 2. Pick "Serial port 1" or "Serial port 2". 3. You're done. This is more complicated than it should be, and the issue will be fixed in an update. Of course you mightn't even be using Salling Clicker in which case this obviously won't help.

Hi,

I'm having the same problems with addressbook and my T630. Im looking in the ABDeviceCommandSets.plist file, but I can find differt ABDeviceModelStrings, and each time there are diffent models mentioned. Is it possible to send me a copy of your entire ABDeviceCommandSets.plist in text form so that I can check it out to find the difference between that one and mine. My e-mail is maesen_jeroen@mac.com

Thanks a lot

....not sure if this is an additional problem to the above? -- Address Book 'sees' my phone (the T630) but wont import/update any new vcards. (just updated to 10.3.5 --think this maybe the prob) ...it updated before.

tried adding the t630 string in the resources code, but no luck. maybe this bug needs to be re-edited somewhere else in the code?

new to all this fixing stuff.....

thanks in advance for any help ---

Add Address Book support for the Sony Ericsson Z520i
Authored by: Siamdive on Sun, Oct 30 2005 at 10:10PM PST
I added a Z520 array for my phone, but it will not dial or send an SMS, although it's not greyed out. I can dial Skype with the phone, but nothing else. Am I using the right number any idea? It's really a Z520i, but that shouldn't have to be added. To fix iSync, I added Z520 and that works fine, but no joy here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Follow the instructions at the head of this thread.

5. Find this array in the ABDeviceCommandSets.plist: Root -> 1 -> ABDeviceModelStrings ... you should see two string entries here, T610 and Z600. Add another string entry with the value Z520.

This worked for me.
