10.3: Use the Safari Debug menu to import HTML bookmarks Web Browsers
The Safari debug menu now can handily import bookmarks from HTML files! I've had a huge number of bookmarks I exported from IE/Windows back in April, when I got rid of my PC. I haven't been able to get them into Safari, despite trying a number of tips (open the file in Safari, drag the links, etc etc). Until now.

Make sure you select the "Import Bookmarks" option, not the "Import IE/NS/Mozilla Bookmarks" option, which will just look for existing installs and get the bookmarks from there.

Since it's in a hidden menu, there must be some problems with this, but I haven't found any. Remember, when not running Safari, enter defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1 at the terminal to turn the menu on (and then re-launch Safari).

Or . . .

1) Download recent version of Camino.
2) Import bookmarks into Camino.
3) Export bookmarks from Camino as Safari bookmark list.

i am having the darndest time importing pc ie favorites to safari. it would be so easy if it was one document called "favorites.html." but unfortunately, it is in a folder, filled with ".url"s

i was able to enable your hint of adding the debug menu, but could not get it to import, because the links are not just one file.

any suggestions would be very appreciated. i love this site and come here almost every day for killer tips.

thanks!

The command
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 0
, so just replacing the 1 with a 0 should do the trick

it worked for me, but how would i get rid again of the debug menu?

a more comfortable way to import bookmarks would be downloading the latest version of Safari Enhancer at
http://tc.versiontracker.com/product/redir/lid/414220/safari_enhancer.dmg

it allows switching on and off the debug menu and has more controls such as an import bookmarks command.

Safari Enhancer worked grat to import the PC bookmarks into Safari. The version 2.5.1 now even has a button to directly import them without having to set debugmode first.

Question: I want to sync back and forth from my work PC to my home Mac. Is there a way to get the Safari bookmarks imported into my work PC (Explorer)?
