Reset iChat AV's audio quality level Apps
Sometimes when iChat AV lacks enough bandwidth for high quality audio chat, it chokes the throughput by degrading audio quality. This can be a pain, as when you regain your full bandwidth, you'll still have poor audio quality conferencing because of a bottleneck in the past.

To let iChat re-evaluate its quality setting implicated by the available bandwidth, just push the mute button and then press it again to toggle the audio on and off -- voila!

This also works around a bug in the iChat AV beta where the audio quality level goes way down, no highs just bass. It seems to happen only on G3s. The bug does not seem to be related to bandwidth and it is an issue in one direction only, not both. If you cannot hear the other side after a few mintues of chat, have the person on the OTHER SIDE hit the mute button. It will fix the proble for a few minutes.
