Medal of Honor:Allied Assault - WWII action game Pick of the Week

I actually ran a review of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault back in July, so I won't go into a ton of detail again this time, but I did spend a couple more hours with the game this weekend. I'd forgotten just how engrossing it is, especially the beach landing mission. If you're a fan of so-called "FPS" (first person shooter) games, Allied Assault provides all the excitement of a Quake3 with a substantial and intriguing plot. It's also not all just shoot-em-up action; there are tactical sections as well.

All in all, MoH:AA is a great way to spend some free computer time if you have a system with a reasonable amount of horsepower (although some comments to the original review indicate that it ran fine on an iBook).

and if you have a multiprocessor mac, it provides endless hours of frustration with it's frequent and random crashes, despite the latest update's assurance that these problems were fixed.

is that why my dualie 500 keeps crashing on me?

i thought it was because of my weak stock video card....

i am still getting an ATI 9000 when it comes out, but i guess i will lower my expectations of that fixing my problems...

damn

I've been running MOH:AA on a dual 867 DDR (10.2.1 w/ ATI Radeon 9000 Pro) without a single crash. There have to be other common denominators with the machines that experience crashes, not just multi-proc.

Just a thought.

My machine (Dual 1ghz Quicksilver 1) kept getting kernel panics after running MOHAA after about 1/2 hour of intense gameplay. After all the trouble shooting I went through it turned out to be a bad processor. (Even the Apple techs had trouble pinpointing the problem. Apparently Apples own hardware tests and MacTest pro are not multiprocessor aware) I only had panics during intense prolonged usage. Anyway it has run fine for me since I got my machine back.

I too have this same problem, but I've only been playing on-line since I bought a new duel G4 with a radion 9000 pro. Not sure if it will crash when playing the single player scenarios.

I used the MOHAA patch that is supposed to correct this. No change.

note: It only crashes when switching from one map to another.

I run MOHAA on a powerbook g4 667mhz 512mb ram and haven't had a single crash or any problems with all the settings on high.

uhh... non-gamers.

I don't have much time to spend gaming these days and quite frankly, I lose interest in today's games pretty quickly. However, I am a huge history buff, so I picked up MOH:AA this evening to check it out. What a phenominal game -- interesting FPS play in addition to a substantial plot and it attempts to be historically accurate. During the game's intro, I got the same feeling in my stomach than I did during Saving Private Ryan.

This game is excellent in every aspect. Superior to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and the multiplayer is superb too. Come and join our Mac clan for MOH at www.cocktoasten.co.uk!

You're right...this game is excellent!
Have you tried using the multiplayer feature? It has an excellent system to select a game from over a thousand on-line gamers. There are many with over 20 players.
You get to see some real talent...especially the snipers!
