Talk to Eliza to solve all your problems UNIX
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but OS X comes with the simulated therapy program, Eliza. In the terminal type emacs and hit enter. When the editor has loaded, hold shift and hit the escape key. Then type xdoctor and hit return. Answer the first question and proceed from there. When you're done, control-X control-C will quit the editor.

This is saving me a bundle already! :-)

Is this the Eliza written by Tom Bender, the author of "Tex-Edit Plus", the World's Coolest Word Processor?

Ohmygod, is it the real Eliza or her evil twin? Knowing the answer to this will determine whether I upgrade to Jaguar or not. Answer quick!

You don"t need 10.2 for this to work. It worked for me under 10.1.5, but she is too stupid to be useful :-)

Eliza doesn't respond to me

I can't seem to get any reaction from Eliza at all in 10.1.5. Nothing happens. Here's the scenario:

I am the psychotherapist. Please, describe your problems. Each time
you are finished talking, type RET twice.

My problem is my wife. She spends all my money and treats me badly
all the while.RET RET

Fun, but stupid

Are you sure I am apparently a stupid <censored> idiot?

yes.

Yes, well, what makes you believe this is so?

because it is obvious.

Is it because it is obvious that you came to me?

-------------------------------------

This kind of thing could cause people with real problems to completely flip out.

But it is kind of fun. For about five minutes.

emacs????
Authored by: Glanz on Tue, Sep 3 2002 at 7:32AM PDT
You said emacs comes with OS X. I just installed OS X.2 and emacs is nowhere to be found. It is simply not in the system and I did a complete install with Developer tools, etc. I use it under Darwin(fink), but it is nowhere in the native OS X system nor on the CD's.

tetris, anyone?
Authored by: pmccann on Tue, Sep 3 2002 at 9:27AM PDT
Maybe this is well known, but just in case: along with the kitchen sink, you also get the opportunity to waste time in your terminal window playing a lame game of tetris: in emacs, simply enter

M-x tetris

(ie "Esc x tetris" for those without the option key mapped in terminal)

Cheers,
Paul
